Liberty University Graduation Weekend: Where to Stay & What to Do

Liberty University graduation is the busiest weekend in Lynchburg. Over 15,000 residential students, plus their families, converge on campus for commencement ceremonies, and every hotel within 30 miles fills up weeks in advance.

Our property in College Park sits three minutes from campus. You get four-plus bedrooms, a dining table that seats fourteen, a fenced backyard, and a full kitchen. Enough room for the whole family without splitting across hotel rooms.

Getting There

Lynchburg Regional Airport (LYH) is ten minutes from the property. Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional (ROA) is about an hour away with more flight options. If you are driving, Lynchburg is roughly three hours from DC, two hours from Richmond, and four hours from Charlotte.

Parking on Campus

Liberty opens overflow parking lots during graduation weekend. Shuttles run from the lots to the ceremony venue. Arrive early. By mid-morning the main lots are full. The ceremony typically takes place at Williams Stadium.

Where to Eat

Downtown Lynchburg is ten minutes from campus. Rivermont Pizza is a local favorite for casual dining. The Virginian in the historic Virginian Hotel does fine dining. El Jefe Taqueria has good tacos and margaritas. Market at Main has local produce and coffee. Three Notch'd Brewing is the go-to for craft beer after the ceremony.

What Else to Do

If family is in town for a few days, take them to Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest (20 minutes), hike Percival's Island along the James River (10 minutes), or drive the Blue Ridge Parkway (25 minutes to the nearest access point). Peaks of Otter is 45 minutes and worth the trip for the Sharp Top hike.
